The snowbank on the horizon, upper right side of screen, lies on the continental divide. Meltwater on the backside runs into streams that eventually take the water to the Pacific Ocean via of the Colorado River. On the front side water from the snow, as well as, underground springs coalesced to form a stream where you see the taller, dark green grass at the bottom of the draw (N37 48 0.0, W107 32 1.8 Elevation 12,600 ft ) . As the size of the streambed shows in the foreground it grows fast. This photograph was taken in July and there was very little water in the stream bed when the photograph was taken. If you look about 1/3 of the way up the mountain on the left side of the screen you can make out a trail running to the horizon. This trail is the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail.
